About the Ministry of Praise
Sister Mary Charla, RSM, began the Ministry of Praise in 1979 in order to unite the sick, handicapped, homebound and elderly into a body of prayerful people who would support their parishes and the universal church. The offering of their prayers, sufferings and sacrifices as a perpetual gift to God supplies a spiritual treasure trove for the good of all, and for their own spiritual growth as well.
Members are mandated at a special commissioning Mass where they receive a certificate of membership, a book of suggested prayers and a cross.
The pastor or designated parish staff member then sends all parish ministers a letter each month setting forth specific prayer intentions for that month. All in the parish are thus assured of daily intercessions to God on their behalf. Those who are physically unable to attend the commissioning Mass may be commissioned in their homes.
